About

Wayne Buckhanan, PhD

A geek who loves people and teaching. From the outside it looks like I am all over the place, but it all comes back to a few core things. Bespoke tech, applied psychology, evidence-based learning experiences. Leadership development, ethical sales, generative AI. Same substance, different flavors.

The people side entered by way of NLP.

The people side entered by way of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. When I first ran across NLP, I recognized myself in the phrase “a Meta monster” — someone who uses the specifics to torment others. “Please take the trash out.” “Which trash? Where specifically am I taking it? What am I doing with it once I have it?” When I realized that the language patterns that just seemed to annoy others could actually be used for constructive change-work, I jumped at the chance.

A big chunk of what drew me to the applied psychology side is the explanatory aspects of the models I resonate with. It makes sense out of the messy human aspects of things when they bump up against the clean (well, cleaner) technical solutions.

On why both worlds, and where they overlap

It gave me a lot more insight into how and why people do the things they do. I like both worlds so I tend to play where they clearly overlap. And that means I am at least as likely to reach for a “people” solution as a “technical” one.
