Blog Daily

I just committed to Tinu's 100 days of blogging challenge. (Thanks Tinu for the prompting and Dr. Wright for assuming I'd be up for the challenge!)

Over the last week I participated in another blogging challenge and wrote 5 posts in a week when I hadn't posted anything here or at LifeLoveAndLearning.com for months.

I realized that I'm a very social beast. There are certain types of tasks that I do well once I get going, but the prompting is usually having others there working along side me. (I'm a social cleaner, and quite likely a social blogger! Who'da thunk it.)

Are you ready to take up this challenge? What ever you decide to do I suggest learning to leverage your own working style.

Now go out there and change the world from the inside out!

Marketing Mastermind w/NLP Trainer, TV personality, and you?

Below is an email I sent out today. I decided to extend the offer beyond just my list and let you join the party. Let me know what you think:

Today's note is for you if are in business or interested in starting a business online. Keep doing what you're doing if you don't want to learn how to earn more.

(Impatient, like me? Click here. )

My good friend Dr. Letitia Wright is the person I run to when I've got any questions about traditional media such as TV, radio, film, etc. (Over the last 10 years, she's grown her own cable TV show that now goes out to well over 4 million homes in the LA area, so she knows what she's doing with media.)

When she set up a 10 Week PR Challenge last fall I jumped at the chance to learn more about interacting with the media. ( http://wrightplacetv.com/pr-challenge )

She and I both know the power of learning from those who have gone before us as well as the power of collaboration and accountability.

When the chance to study with one of the "old time" masters of marketing came along we both took notice. The master I'm talking about is Marlon Sanders, the man who has documented that 1 in 102 people with Internet access had accessed one of his websites, those same sites that have resulted in multitudes of sales of his products!

Marlon is hosting a 6-week "Round Table" series where he shows his computer screen and walks us through the "secret sauce" he's used to get all those visitors and those sales.

Find out more about Marlon's offer.

Now, Marlon only promises that we'll have a personalized plan for going from "nothing" to "something" and scaling that up to whatever amount you can dare to dream.

After Marlon's part ends most people will be left on their own to implement their plan. Most of them will do nothing.

Dr. Wright and I have come up with a plan to make sure you are one who puts that plan into action and gets things done!

When you join Marlon's Round Table through the link in this message, you'll be able to join Dr. Wright, myself, and the other action takers we've associated ourselves with in an additional 6-week mastermind group to implement our personalized plans from master Marlon.

This is the perfect opportunity for you if you've signed up for any courses in the past and either didn't finish the materials or got through it all and just never got it going.

As part of the mastermind you'll get access to my upcoming group coaching "24 hour TRANCE" where I help people break old patterns, get out of that trance, and get things done!

Besides, when are you going to get access to three masters of their trades for such a small investment?

Master of marketing, master of media, and master of motivation.

Join the masters!

Click that link, find out what Marlon's offering, and join us before the calls/webinars with Marlon start next week!

Now, go out and create a great day!

The “right” tool for the job

I was recently told I had to use a very specific tool to perform a particular task. This lead to a discussion where I listened to the reasons they had in mind and immediately agreed to use the tool. Interestingly, the conversation carried on for quite a while where they attempted to convince me that the tool was the best choice for the circumstances. They never convinced me, but it did raise an interesting question in my mind.

How often, when we've already gotten the answer we wanted, do we continue beating a dead horse just to prove that we are "right"?

Doing things like that in business makes it hard to get repeat business and even harder to get referral business. (Who wants to tell their friends to go visit so-and-so because they'll make sure you get properly abused along with their stellar service?!)

The real question is whether you need to be right or just get the job done.
(Last time I checked being right doesn't pay bills.)

Atypical Small Business Planning

When most people ask whether you've got a business plan or not they are thinking of the Assets/Liabilities/Income/Expense statements. That's a piece of the whole plan, but if that's all you're relying on then you've bought into A LIE.

Full blown business plans are useful in an Eisenhower sort of way -- Plans are nothing; planning is everything.

What is often most important is to go through the process of identifying your destination (outcome goals), identifying what you need to do (planning), and identifying how you intend to do it (process goals).

Just walking through your typical day in your dream life can make a world of difference in whether you want to really reach that goal or not.

Many people get stuck on setting an outcome: "I want to be a millionaire." A few get as far as a plan: "flipping X houses a month." Very, very few think through the day-to-day process: "I will call # of home owners a day with a cheerful attitude and ..."

So, while the typical formal business plan could help a start-up get VC funding, an arbitrary small business owner is well advised to work on a lifestyle planning process in addition to the usual A/L/I/E business planning.

Whether you have a formal business plan ready or not, check out what I share (a "secret") for how you can save time, energy, and money. (I say "secret" because you probably already know what to do -- the question is: are you doing it?!)

Communication Skills: Your Second Most Important Skill

It's true, there is something even more important than your communication skills. (I know, sounds funny coming from someone who specializes in conscious and unconscious communication.) Let me share that most important skill.

First, imagine the scene: our intrepid communicator, as skilled as any who walked the Earth before, steps up to the lectern in a large amphitheater.

It is silent for a moment and he begins telling stories. Our presenter has every person in the room focused on the words, the motions, and most importantly, the emotions as imagined while practicing the speech.

Fifty-nine minutes later the speaker closes with the most compelling call to action since Dr. King and JFK combined. There is a moment of silence, and then ...

Nothing.

What happened? What was missing from this scene?

The amphitheater was empty. Not a seat was filled.

Audience trumps communication skills!

Which brings us around to the original point. The second most important: communication skills. The most important skill is making sure the audience is there -- and that it is the right audience for the message!

President Obama, while campaigning, certainly spent time with grade school children. He did not, however, give them the same State of the Union type address he shared for the television cameras during prime-time.

So, what does this have to do with entrepreneurs? Focusing on one or the other of these two, communication skills or finding a suitable audience, must be accompanied by the other!

The worlds greatest advertisement does no good on the dark side of the moon. And if you have the attention of all the fans during half-time at the Superbowl you'd better have your skill in communication at its finest if you're going to take advantage of that audience.

Right Audience + Communication Skills

As a lifelong learner, I take many opportunities to hone my skill in communicating and at gathering an appropriate crowd. Over the course of July and August we have the chance to learn directly from a man who is a master at collecting audiences and a master at delivering focused communications that produce very specific actions: Marlon Sanders.

communication skills
In case you don't know, Marlon has documented that at one point he had 1 in 102 people with an Internet connection visit one of his web sites. Those same web sites produced millions in sales from his ability to communicate with that audience and produce the actions he intended. He shares some of his wisdom on what's new in 2010 in this video.

I'd love for you to join me in learning from someone who is, ahem, an "old timer" that is still getting things done. Choose your exemplars for modeling carefully. I am choosing Marlon.

For those who choose to join me in this program, I'm putting together a "study group" or "mastermind" to leverage all of my NLP Training to keep the group motivated to implement the plans created from Marlon's knowledge.

Check out Marlon's 6-week Round Table and see if it makes sense for you, now, to learn more about sales-related communication skills and getting in front of the right audience!

NLP Training for Volunteers

Even NLP Training can't make resources infinite

NLP Training for Volunteers

I recently realized that I am limited -- as we all are. The interesting part of this realization is that it was specifically in relation to quality in packaging my information. Our lovely friends (including the horses) at Shily's Promise Youth Ranch prompted this thought when I realized that their volunteers could really use the information I've been producing. The trouble, as I see it, is that as much as we'd like to reject it a book is judged by it's cover and similarly my audios would need to be edited and packaged well to be received in the way intended.

I've been running a "beta test" of an NLP Training home study course for a few Space Monkeys with the unedited audios as I recorded them. The feedback I've been getting on the content has all been positive. So I'm ready to ramp up this endeavor and I finally recognized that while I can do it all, I can't do it all in a reasonable time frame. This is where you come in -- I need help to be able to equip volunteers with more positive communication skills so that the kids benefit even more from the outreach program at places like SPYR.

Why I am doing this NLP Training for Volunteers project

My purpose in life is to "Change the world from the inside out" and what better way than to support our disadvantaged and at-risk youth. I have the honor of supporting two outreach programs locally that work with kids: Shily’s Promise Youth Ranch (SPYR) and I Believe I Can (IBIC). Both of these programs enable youth and their families to connect with their own strengths.

One of the struggles of these sorts of outreach programs is recruiting skilled volunteers. I have a cunning plan to help with both quantity and quality of volunteers — and therefore the quality of interaction with the kids — for these outreach programs and beyond.

Here's where you help

Go fund the project, join us as an editor/artist, and tell others about the project.
It's all there at the NLP Training for Volunteers page over at IndieGoGo -- including the perks for funding this gift to at-risk youth (as if the warm fuzzy feeling wasn't enough!).

Now, go out there and do your part to bring this NLP Training to volunteers and the kids they serve!
